Egerton Church of England
Together, we inspire, nurture and thrive.
Our PE curriculum provides all children with opportunities to engage fully in Physical Education as we recognise the importance PE plays in the curriculum. The aim of our PE programme is to develop children's basic physical competencies, build confidence in their ability and build the foundations for a lifelong love of sport, physical activity and a healthy lifestyle. PE lessons encourage children to compete against themselves and others whilst being challenged to improve their physical, social, emotional and thinking skills.
Through high quality teaching, we develop the following essential characteristics of athletes:
Our PE curriculum is progressive and allows children to develop fundamental skills and apply them to a variety of sports and activities. All children are provided with the necessary skills and given opportunities to demonstrate improvement to achieve their personal best. Our pupils are physically active, and this has a positive impact on their learning in the classroom. PE is taught twice each week but we also aim to ensure that children are active every day at school.
We deliver our teaching of PE through the use of Teach Learn Grow PE (TLG PE). We have built the Egerton CE Primary School PE curriculum by carefully selecting the units from the TLG PE programme that will allow progression. Children will revisit specified sports each year and develop knowledge and skills within these.
We encourage our children to be active every day at school. Active travel is encouraged as the school welcomes the children at the Village Hall each morning, and we walk to school together. Children are provided with resources they may use at playtimes and playground markings encourage movement. Our Year 5 and 6 children can become Play Leaders and encourage active play during lunchtimes.
The school hosts a Sports Week each year, where the children take part in competitive and non-competitive activities. Athletes visits inform children about different sports and the children can learn more about professional sports people. The school also offers a range of after school sporting activities and children also compete against local schools.
